Dr. David B. Stein is professor of psychology at Longwood University, a state college in Central Virginia. He teaches Abnormal Child Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis (Behavior Modification), Psychopharmacology, Psychology and Law, The Psychology of Terrorism and Homeland Security, and of course, Introduction to Psychology. He has an extensive list of research publications and professional presentations. He is a best-selling author, and his books include: Ritalin is Not the Answer: A Drug-free, Practical Program for Children Diagnosed with ADD or ADHD; The Ritalin is Not the Answer Action Guide: An Interactive Companion to the best-selling Drug-Free ADD/ADHD Parenting Program; Unraveling the ADD/ADHD Fiasco: A Guide for Successful Parenting; and Controlling the Difficult Adolescent: The REST Program (Real Economy Program for Teens).

Affectionately called Dr. Dave, he has won numerous honors and awards for his thirty years of devoted work in offering drug-free treatment and parenting alternatives for the most difficult and out-of-control-children and teens. He has been listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers for many years; he is a diplomate, he was awarded the 2001 outstanding teacher and scholar at Longwood; and his research on ADD/ADHD treatment was selected as one of the top ten for media coverage at the 1998 American Psychological Association convention. His book Ritalin is Not the Answer was endorsed as required reading by all parents, educators, and doctors at the 2001 Ritalin Litigation Conference in New York. Increasingly, pediatricians and family physicians, especially since his work was featured in the 2001 text Advances in Medicine, are prescribing his books as an alternative to drugs, and as they report, with excellent success. When asked to describe himself, he readily states "My most important position is being Dad to three wonderful children."

He is also a criminologist and is a credentialed, ongoing consultant to the Virginia State Police. His duties include criminal profiling, crisis and hostage negotiations, critical incident responding, crime scene investigations, and threat assessment. He has written numerous criminal justice and police journal articles and book chapters, and made numerous presentations.
